The Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation (WECHC) outlines a clear set of tenant responsibilities to maintain harmonious and safe living conditions for everyone in the community. The key responsibilities and actions that can lead to eviction are summarized as follows:
Tenant Responsibilities
Paying Rent: Rent should be paid in full on the first of each month.
Reporting Changes: Inform WECHC of any changes in your income or household composition immediately.
Maintaining the Home: Ensure your home is well-kept and report any necessary repairs.
Actions of Household Members: Be responsible for the behaviour of all household members, including guests and visitors.
Respecting Neighbours: Keep noise levels respectful and maintain good relations with neighbours.
Clean Common Areas: Contribute to maintaining cleanliness in shared spaces.
No Subletting: Do not sublet or assign your home to anyone not listed in your lease.
Renovations: Obtain written permission from WECHC before making any alterations to your home.
Notice to Move: Provide proper written notice to WECHC when you plan to move out.
Eviction Grounds
Eviction may occur if:
Rent is consistently paid late.
Household income is misrepresented.
You no longer qualify for Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) subsidy and fail to pay market rent.
Persistent disturbances affect other tenants.
There are threats to the safety of tenants or WECHC staff.
You break the law or engage in illegal activities on the property.
You breach your lease agreement.
The condition of your unit is not up to an acceptable standard of cleanliness.
WECHC’s goal is to prevent evictions by supporting tenants in fulfilling their responsibilities. The organization recognizes that tenants are capable and responsible partners in maintaining a safe and livable community.
